Weed Control Home

Uintah County Weed Department — Welcome!!!

The purpose of the Weed Department is to enforce the Utah Noxious Weed Act. The Weed Department manages the control efforts of all State and County noxious weeds, assisting the residents of Uintah County, where possible, to identify and often control designated noxious and invading weeds.

Weed control is a big deal!
The costs of weed control doesn't have to be expensive, but it can be if weeds get out of control! The cost of not controlling weeds often carries an enormous pricetag! Impacts to agriculture, recreation and transportation cost tax payers billions of dollars each year!

Most noxious weeds are non-native plants that have been accidentally or intentionally introduced into the United States. These weeds compete aggressively for available resources. Some costly problems include: Reducing crop yields, reducing livestock forage, limiting recreational opportunities, reducing wildlife habitat, displacing native vegetation, increasing soil erosion, adversely affect soil and water quality and many other problems.

The Weed Department is a member of the Utah Weed Control Association. As a member of this organization, the Weed Department has access to the latest information, technology, and additional government funding.

The County Commission has appointed a Weed Board to oversee weed control issues. The County has one full-time weed control employee, Nathan Belliston as Weed Control Supervisor, and one full-time employee, Davey Jensen as Secretary. Seasonal employees are hired each year as necessary.
