The Assessor's office primary responsibility is to determine "fair market value".  We do not create value.  Buyers and sellers create value by their transactions in the market place.

The Assessor is required to assess each parcel of real property in the County by annually updating value based on current market data (sales comparables), and physically inspecting each property at least once every five years.  Adjustments are made, up or down,  as the market changes.

Our office does not collect taxes on real property (agricultural land, vacant land, residences, commercial and all other types of improvements).  Real property taxes are collected by the Treasurer's Office.

Mobile Home Personal Property and Business Personal Property taxes are collected by the Assessor.

When I get my tax valuation notice in July, how do I file an appeal?

The appeal process is for assessed value, not taxes.   If your opinion of value differs from what is on your Notice, please contact the Assessor's office.  We will go over the information we have on file for accuracy, and explain how we arrived at your value. The deadline for filing any appeals is September 16th at 5:00 PM. All evidence and information regarding your estimated value must be submitted to the Clerk Auditor's office by that time.
