What are the requirements to be eligible to register to vote in Utah?

To register to vote in Utah, you must:

  • be a citizen of the United States
  • have resided in Utah for 30 days before the next election
  • be at least 18 years old on or before the next election
  • not be a convicted felon currently incarcerated for commission of a felony.

If I have moved since I last registered, do I need to reregister?

Yes. You will need to submit a new voter registration form. You may cancel the voter registration at your previous address by completing the portion of the form requesting "Name and Address on Last Voter Registration."

What if I'm a student in Utah and plan to return to my home state upon graduation?

Out of state students who register in Utah will give up their home state residency. Students planning to return to their home state after completing their studies in Utah may consider voting absentee in their home state as an alternative to registering to vote in Utah.

If my name has changed since I last registered, do I need to reregister?

Yes. You will need to submit a new voter registration form. You may cancel the voter registration with your previous name by completing the portion of the form requesting "Name and Address on Last Voter Registration".

Do I need to declare a political party in order to register?

No. Declaring a political party is optional. If you declare a party on your voter registration form it will be public information. Party affiliation is required for closed Primaries.

How can I change political parties if I have already declared a party?

If you want to change political parties, you can fill out another voter registration form declaring the new party.

If I submit a voter registration form, how will I know if I am registered?

Your county clerk will mail you a confirmation card (Voter ID Card). If you are not qualified or the information on your form is incomplete, your county clerk will try to notify you that your application was not accepted. (For this reason it is a good idea to include your daytime telephone number on your registration form)

What are the dates of the upcoming elections?

Primary Election Date: Tuesday, June 22, 2010.
Primary Early Vote: June 8-18, 2010 tentatively during regular office hours.
General Election Date: Tuesday, November 2, 2010.
General Election Early Vote: October 19-29, 2010 tentatively during regular office hours.
Please contact the County Clerk's office for your actual ballot information.
Special Elections: Dates are announced as elections are scheduled.

When must I register to be able to vote in the next election?

You need only register ONCE to be eligible to vote in all elections UNLESS you have moved or changed your name.

Mail-in registration forms must be received in the Clerk-Auditor's office no later than 30 days before any election, in-person registration deadline 15 days before election.

In-Person Registration dates:

Primary May 24, 2010 - June 7, 2010..
General October 4, 2010 - October 18, 2010.

To be eligible to vote for Special Elections you must register 30 days before the date of the election.

If I previously registered to vote, do I need to re-register in order to vote in the next election?

You will only need to re-register if you have moved to a new address, changed your name or you wish to register with a political party or change your party affiliation.

What are my options for registering to vote?

At the Uintah County elections Office, 147 East Main, Vernal, or
Print the registration form from the Uintah County Clerks website, (click here for form) or
obtain a registration form from your local city office, post office or banks
